Forest Electric New York (Forest NY) was contracted by The New York Times to assist with a multi-floor restack and workstation migration initiative that would help them free up space to sublease to commercial tenants. Simultaneously, Forest NY also led the design and construction of a new, state-of-the-art data center.
Client Objectives
The Times wanted to free up some of the 52 floors comprising their office tower for subleasing. In order to do this, all of the desks on the formerly Times-held floors needed to be migrated to other floors. The client decided to restack all of their floors in order to increase desk capacity on those they would retain. Additionally, they wanted to build a new data center on their twelfth floor to anchor their expanded power and data thresholds.
Solutions
Forest NY restacked floors 2-9, 12, and 13. As part of the restacking process, they developed a structured cabling system, which involved furnishing and installing hundreds of thousands of feet of high-performance Systimax Cat6 cabling to approximately 3,000 workstations. Throughout the project, Forest NY delivered engineering services and coordination/support.
In completing the project, Forest Electric furnished and installed the following components:
- 900,000 feet of Systimax Cat6 cabling
- 100,000 feet of Corning fiber optic cable
- Corning fiber optic MTP trunks, APC cabinets, and containment in the new data center
- Security cabling and devices
