Value Delivered
Forest Electric New York (Forest NY) installed infrastructure for a new high-density wireless network at Citi Field. The new network enables Citi Field to provide stadium-specific applications for fans, as well as back-office ticketing, point-of-sale, and stadium operations.
Forest NY had to perform services around the New York Mets’ home schedule while still delivering the project on a strict timeframe. When the team was on the road, we worked both day and night shifts. During home games, we labored from early morning until late afternoon, and after the game through the night.
Client Objectives
Citi Field needed to install a new high-density wireless network with the capacity to service thousands of users.
Solutions
Our scope of work included the build-out of a Wi-Fi head-end room, which feeds fiber to 26 intermediate data frame (IDF) closets in the stadium. This fiber supports 486 wireless access points, which are spread throughout the stadium to help ensure that every visitor can connect to the network.
We also provided and installed:
- 26,000 feet of fiber-optic cable from the head-end room to 26 IDF closets
- Over 100,000 feet of Cat6 cabling from IDF closets to antennae installed in rigid conduit throughout the stadium
- Custom-engineered scaffolding that utilized existing stadium infrastructure as a trolley in order to access antenna locations that mount on the roof extension of the upper deck
Client Background
Citi Field is a baseball stadium located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City.
